New Chapter
In the last seventeen years I have seen many ups and downs in global economy. With the raising and falling waves I was able to keep my flower store and later floral studio sailing through the tumultuous waters. For many years I was convinced that nothing was harder than the decision to leave well paid job of floral designer in posh well established Yorkville business and start my own GeniusLoci Fine Flowers in the Beach. And then COVID-19 hit us all. A magnifying glass exposing inequalities in our society, a brute force uprooting our routines, separating loved ones and scaring the crap out of all of us.
After the initial total collapse of my sales, something happened. People started calling again and asking me if we were still delivering flowers. I must admit, it was unexpected and so much welcomed. I was forced to stop being scared and lost. I had the mission; to bring moments of joy and colour to sad and gray reality. Easier said than done. Global chains of supply were uprooted, getting any flowers became a daily challenge. Even today, months into pandemic we are not even close to what we had at a finger tips just a year ago. It’s getting better, not perfect, but we are moving in the right direction. I believe people see the extra efforts we have to go through to get our bouquets delivered. We can see smiling eyes looking back at us as we safely drop the flowers and watch you from the distance admiring them for the first time.
Keep smiling, stay safe and take care of each other.
